Used a similar technique to the Eternal Court and made Heaven. Used Angela's suggestion of upside down clouds for where she lands.
Heaven?

Done in nupastel and a cool grey colour burned layer added in Photoshop to help separate the dark areas from the lighter ones.
Done in nupastel and edited in Painter using the flat grainy stump blender and the smudge blender after being colour adjusted in Photoshop.
Same as above with Rainbow Ecks.
Same as above, with less colour.

I was asked not to focus on the classroom, but...

More hand drawn lines, this one just with your basic prismacolor. Not to proper design, not the correct door placement or chair or desk and what have you. More colour and atmosphere and treating textures as part of layout elements and how the character fits within that than anything else.

eternal court concept

Based on Michelle's 2.5 boards. It's a bit rough around the edges, but you get the idea! Tried to emulate a cutout technique that we could animate traditionally, kind of à la Kung Fu Panda/Secrets of the Furious Five. Kind of.

Take that, gouache!

Not sure if it's the direction I'm really seeing for the film, mostly experimenting and dealing with my gouache issues! I used that Japanese acryla gouache stuff for colour, and India ink for the line stuff - one of those nib pens for the BG, and I went over it with a brush for Ecks.
Just finished watching Secrets of the Furious Five from the Kung Fu Panda DVD release today. Most of it is done in the flat style of the feature's opening sequence (but not animated by the Baxter studio), really inspiring stuff, gorgeous backgrounds and designs overall. Definitely something I'll try to keep in mind on my other pieces for Monday!

Best fun I've had all week

One shot of just-a-character that I played with this morning. Eternal court.
Clean up line was done with a mechanical pencil so it's a fairly thin, clean line with a consistent weight. Colour adjusted line in photoshop to a dark brown. Used the same brown to mock in a two-tone shade with just your basic brush tool. Color dodged the layer, set it to 50% fill, and offset it slightly. Slapped down a colour layer between the two (line underneath) and set it to multiply. Topped it off with a pure white highlight layer.
Total work time after having done the clean up line traditionally was approximately 40 minutes. That includes revisions and decision making. Time could be substantially shortened by having another hand drawn layer dictating the outline of the shade and highlight. Time could also be shortened by a set colour palette, and use of the wand and fill tools.
Not something I'm trying to sell anyone on particularly, only sharing where I'm at so far on my own over here.
