READ THIS POST (AND LOOK AT THE VIDEO)

Alright, hopefully I got your attention and you're now commited to reading this wonderful post.

(A friendly reminder that you ahould be checking the blog every day. Just in case any of you forgot. And while we're on the topic, I added everyone else who wasn't on the e-mail notification list for comments posted on the blog. This should have been done a long time ago. You're welcome.)

Anyway, on with the actual point of this post. After viewing the awesome Vinni Puh, Amber pointed me to this awesome short of Sherlock Holmes, also in Russian (but with English subs). I posted part 2, but there's good stuff (and a hilarious moment) in part 1.

I know I'll be stirring shit with this, but I really like the look of it. And I think the animation techniques used would make for a great unified look, because everyone would be animating with the same "cutouts". End result - a tight looking film. It would make for a great experiment for us, as it would be a new technique. I understand that the group might be very much against it because of the limited animation style. I could defend this point by saying that tackling a style like this would look great on anyone's demo/portfolio next to full out animation stuff as it would show great versatility and an open mind, BUT I won't ram it down anyone's throat. This is a group project. But I'd really appreciate it if THE WHOLE GROUP would watch this example, and consider everything in it, from designs, to layouts, to animation, EVERYTHING.

And now, COMMENT!

I love it! That's obvious. I think with our character designs and possibly a bit more accurate perspective on some bg elements we can make this work and look much cuter than it is here.

Well I was just getting use to as stylised as we had it I even designed most the mrs Ecks like that. Even the one for thursday I kept flat.....But sorry I have to give my oppinion since you did want comments on it. I have to say I'm against both the style and the animation....esspecialy the animation. I'm not a fan of that cut out look. Looks cheap and skill-less. Although I'm not saying it requires no skill, it just does not show off ones abillities at all. However If 70% of the group wants it.......I won't make a fuss about it, but as of yet I'm really against it. Though that should come to no surprise that some members won't take to it as you even stated "I know I'll be stirring shit with this..." ;)

I like the way the colours and textures are applied, but it's not a design or animation aesthetic that I would like to see in our film. I prefer the versatility of drawings over the convenience of cutouts.

Ilike the style and the look of it, but for group film maybe just tweak it and add a little bit more fuller animation because with the story we are going with, I have hard time picturing it with just this kind of cut out animation to fully express the story unless we employ some fancy editing like how they did it in kung fu panda short and intro.

agree with shenghan. more kungfu panda =D

Nice short. I'm still for full animation. I've yet to see this kung-fu panda short everyone's on about. If someone can show me that, I might change my mind, but right now, I', for drawing.

Also, I now recieve an email every time someone posts on the blog, or comments on the blog, or when -I- comment on the blog. I understand the thought behind this but I think it might be overkill, honestly. I already have the blog on RSS so I know when someone posts, I'm really not sure the comment ones are necessary. I've had the first page of my emails wiped from view today alone with emails telling me that I just commented on something. So, thanks for the effort, but it's more annoying than usefull. I will check the topics as they come up on RSS and click the comments button to check those. Really, I promise.

I like the short, it's really funny. The textures and colors make it really nice. For group film, though, I think we need a greater range of expressions, especially for the changing of the memory.

I like how this works as a whole. It's not how I envisioned our project. I would prefer to do an animation style that can showcase our capabilities.
